Panama City to Host the First Edition of Pinta Panamá Art Week in May 2025

Pinta Panamá Art Week will take place from May 21 to 25, 2025, positioning Panama City as a new focal point for contemporary art in Central America and beyond. Over five days, the city will host a comprehensive public program of exhibitions, talks, guided tours, and cultural activities—all free and open to the public.

Organized by Pinta, the international platform for Latin American art, this inaugural edition is sponsored by EFG (Global Lead Partner) and supported by Mercantil, in collaboration with Panama’s Ministry of Culture (MINCULT) and with the backing of the Municipality of Panama City.

The Artistic Direction is led by Irene Gelfman, Pinta’s Global Curator, with Emiliano Valdés, Guatemalan curator and former Chief Curator of the Medellín Museum of Modern Art, in charge of the general curatorship.

Pinta Panamá Art Week will unfold throughout the city with participation from major institutions, including the MAC Panamá, Canal Museum, Museo de la Mola, and cultural foundations such as Casa Santa Ana and Fundación Olga Sinclair. More than a dozen galleries—among them Arteconsult, Galería Habitante, NG Art Gallery, and Weil Art Gallery—will also join the initiative.

The opening exhibition, “What Every Life Dreams Of,” will be held at Ciudad de las Artes from May 22 to 25. The show will feature Panamanian artists Felipe Gómez, Jonathan Harker, Programa Enlaces, and Libertad Rojo, curated by Emiliano Valdés and Juan Canela, Director of MAC Panamá.

Another key highlight will be the INTERNATIONAL FORUM, coordinated by Mónica E. Kupfer, which will bring together curators, scholars, and specialists to discuss topics such as collecting, foundations, and regional perspectives on art. Featured guests include:

  • Julia Morandeira Arrizabalaga, Museo Reina Sofía, Spain
  • Gerardo Mosquera, independent curator and critic
  • María Sancho-Arroyo, Sotheby’s Institute, New York
  • Sofia Villena Araya, MADC, Costa Rica

Forum sessions will be held at multiple venues, including the Centro Cultural de España, MAC Panamá, Canal Museum Auditorium, and Mercantil Auditorium, with support from Roche Bobois Paris and Veló Legal.

Beyond the galleries and lectures, Pinta Panamá Art Week promotes an immersive cultural experience. As a vibrant cultural crossroads, Panama City invites participants to explore its rich heritage, architecture, gastronomy, and contemporary identity—adding a distinctive local flavor to this international celebration of art.
