Aargauer Kunsthaus: Ishita Chakraborty

Ishita Chakraborty (b. 1989, West Bengal, India), winner of the 2024 Manor Art Prize Aarau, presents a solo exhibition at the Aargauer Kunsthaus that questions power structures, migration, colonial legacies, and the climate crisis. Her new works address ecological and socio-political issues through installations, sound, and poetry. Notable pieces include a fragile glass barricade, porcelain barbed wire, and a large wall drawing reflecting on tropical landscapes.

In Protest Song I: Winds of Change (2025), Chakraborty collaborates with an exiled Iranian singer and Bulgarian vocalists to create a political song blending rare languages and traditions. Played through megaphone, the piece recalls street protests and emphasizes hope and resilience.

Chakraborty's practice is marked by collaboration and a deep engagement with the meaning of borders—both physical and symbolic. Her poetic, eco-feminist approach reveals global interconnections and invites viewers to reflect on fragility, resistance, and the shifting definitions of territory and control.
