2012 Ceramics, Sculptures, Projects and Installations Biennial was inaugurated with the proclamation of its prizes, totaling five, at the Spanish-American Culture Center, located at Prado y Malecon; an event that, as an initiative promoted by the National Museum of Ceramics and its director, Alejandro G. Alonso, stimulates traditional practices and experimental ways in this kind of expression.
The prize-winning works are Marejada, by Alexis Acanda Fuentes, an installation characterized by merging technical excellence and accurate space approach; Daños colaterales, by Maite Guerra Reyes, an ingenious ludic deploy of tiny human figures; Sabor cubano, by Dariel Lozano Perez, a virtuous work with references to organic and inorganic materials contrasted in a strong volume; Monumento, by Alberto Rivero Muñiz, a consistent approach to erotic symbols and expressions; Infinito octogonal, by Lazaro Luperon, a project of environmental work that puts together indispensable visual quality and technical requirements for its positioning.
In this last case, exceptionally, Ludwig Foundation in Cuba is going to support the project implementation for one year, so it can be carried out.
The jury was made up of Alejandro G. Alonso, Rosa Juampere, vice president of Cuban Association of Artists Artisans; Helmo Hernandez, president of Ludwig Foundation in Cuba; sculptor Tomas Lara and ceramist Gilberto Gutierrez, who presently showcases his solo show Quinteto de La Habana at the Spanish American Culture Center.
The exhibition is scheduled to be open through July 31.
