ARCOmadrid 2013: A Dynamic Call

Over two hundred galleries from the General Program and commissioned sections will be attending the upcoming edition of ARCOmadrid, to take place on February 13 – 17, 2013. Turkey’s embassy to Spain collaborates in the organization of Focus Turkey section, with ten exhibition spaces and several collateral showcases. The conception of this fair is characterized by several new elements, among them the artworks online store, ARCO Blog and BiDi codes that will be spreading the word on Outstanding Artists.

Curator Vasif Kortun, director of research and programs at SALT institution, Istanbul, and writer and art professional Lara Fresko, were in charge of handpicking Turkish galleries to participate in the program. Other exhibitions are going to be inaugurated in Madrid, thus complementing the art panorama in this country: Centro de Arte 2 de Mayo proposes Halil Altindere’s work, La Casa Encendida is going to display the work of video-artist Ali Kazma, and Matadero Madrid art center will be exhibiting a collective project. These projects will bring collectors and viewers closer to the contemporary artistic production of this active emerging market.

Following its vocation for state-of-the-art technologies and the combination with market strategies, the Fair proposes the launching of Collect online, a virtual platform that, with the collaboration of Paddle 8, will be selling, Feb. 1 - 17, a selection of works from the attending galleries, with prices up to 5,000 euros. Likewise, the organizers have launched ARCO Bloggers (www.arcobloggers.com), an online participative editorial experience, conceived and coordinated by Roberta Bosco and Stefano Caldana.

We’ll keep you posted on the Fair’s sections and prizes.
