Fernando Rodríguez, Humberto Díaz: Connecting Two Physical Spaces, Two Projects

Norway’s Embassy in Havana and Figueroa-Vives Studio presented “Something that Ties Me Up (Algo que me ata)”and“150 Meters of Rope (150 Metros de Soga)”, by Cuban artists Fernando Rodríguez andHumberto Díaz. The idea of “connecting” has been the origin of the first collaboration between Norway’s Embassy in Havana and Figueroa-Vives Studio, in an effort to connect two physical spaces and two projects. Fernando Rodríguez’s“Something that Ties Me Up”, Mexico D.F in 1997, and Humberto Díaz’s“150 Meters of Rope”, showcased within the framework of 2013 Venice Biennale, are two works with nearly 17 years of difference, but they both feature conceptual synchrony and topicality. The dialogue established between these pieces is suggestive and intentional. Both works cross, mix, avoid and meet each other, by playing and flirting with the fine dividing line between individualities and collaborations. This brand-new space between neighbors comes out of the mutual pleasure of working with art and fosters its benefit. Calle 21 e/ H e I No. 307 y 303 Vedado Havana, Cuba
