Isaac Delgado... Chevere(Cool) as always ...

Cuban popular music has great exponents that have distinguished it through time, among them the figure of Isaac Delgado distinguishes, known as the Chevere of Salsa.

A very nice Habana citizen, who speaks low and slow, the former singer of the famous music band NG La Banda,he belongs to the feeling musical family, led by Angel Diaz, and son of one of the Mulatas de Fuego of Tropicana Night Club, Lina Ramirez. " Super Cuban ", as he defines himself in his most recent album, Isaac returns to the Cuban scenario with the slogan that he never stop thinking about Cuba, and it happens the same with the cuban public that remind him as anyone when he sings : "I need a girlfriend who takes care of me, who loves me "... or" what´s up crazy guy, stay cool boy ‘cause that girl ain’t yours or mine"

He is very respectful with his audience given of his scenic projection and the lyrics he sings, so the Chevere wanted to share this time, some thoughts about his relationship with
music and the audience whom he owes who he is.

What musical and personal references have been indispensable until  today  in the career of Isaac Delgado?

I think  the closest reference was the "Feeling" as a daily support. I say this because I was born within that music, José Antonio Mendez, Cesar Portillo, Angelito Diaz, father of my brother Nelson Diaz, of course it is the music I had at home, through my brother Nelson, the great musical influence of my mother, all the people that surrounded Lina Ramirez: actors, musicians, composers, interpreters, etc.

In a more direct way was Meme Solis, a friend of my mother and her emotional ballad. I have the essential reference of an era of artists who gathered at my house on 82 and 17 Streets, Playa, having fun every week; then I had a reference of different music and performers that have meant a lot: Vicentico Valdes, Pacho Alonso, Benny More, Cheo Feliciano, Ruben Blades, Gilbertico Santarosa, Celia and The Sonora, among others.

Isaac is already an emblematic name when we talk about the Salsa in Cuba, what does that genre mean to you?

The Salsa came to me in the 70s, when I was a student and became interested in the urban phenomenon of Fania All Star that, with the basis of our Cuban music, achieved an urban sound of Latin music in New York, and all strongly influenced by different Caribbean sounds. I I feel very identified with all the Salsa movement, and I have been lucky to put a bit more of our Cuban roots on the international stage.

After this absence  from the Cuban scenarios a reunion with a wide audience has been produced, comprised  by those who have never ceased to follow you and other young people who have joined.  How have you felt that relationship?

Wherever I have showed my work I have done it with pride and the feeling to represent the Cuban music. I am very happy to return to play music in my country, I think it is very natural, it is my original scenario, as any artist feels the identity at home. It is something that gives me a different energy, there is now a new generation  that listen to me for the first time, a youth with a great variety of musical genres in their preferences, many who continued listening to my music and many loyal fans, whom I thank their love and affection that they have welcomed me. I was surprised to arrive and see people singing the songs I recorded in the last few years, and I feel much more proud of the affection and love they give me.

Taking into account your international experience, What is the thing that distinguishes the Cuban public?

The Cuban public loves ¨to dance and talk ", there is always a feedback of the most popular and genuine of the street when you face this public.

In this new stage in your career, what are your expectations both in the national and international field?

In the national level, I would like to have a tour and go to the cities and play for those people who has not seen me in a long time and that I have not had the chance to enjoy as an artist in a long time; internationally I still do shows, collaborations and I'm also assuming a work with young musicians from the Island that give a very interesting sound to my work; with them I hope to come back to European scenarios next summer.

How do you assess the current Cuban dancing musical panorama and to where do you believe the proposals are more inclined?

The new panorama of music in Cuba is marked, in the first place, by a mixture of urban sounds; electronic sound is in the blood of the young dancer, there has been a significant fussion  in recent Cubaton time, the timba, and I was amazed by the amount of singers who have been influenced by pop, the R & B and the romantic ballad; however I stay with today rumba musicians. The folkloric music is the root of our identity and the "Son is the most sublime for the soul to have fun "...

Personally, I continue producing music for the dancer, but I try to keep an intermediate sound, I have great influence of the Salsa of Puerto Rico, Colombia, Venezuela, Peru and the Caribbean ... but it sounds Cuban, the simplest and Chevere for the people.

A message to your followers in anywhere, and especially for the Cuban dancer

The message is simple: work, dedication, love and peace.

Thank you so much
