Final Preps for FERIARTE 2010 Now Underway

The 34th edition of the Art & Antiques Fair will have its grand opening a few days from now. Organizers are paying heed to each and every detail in an effort to provide collectors, exhibitors and the general public –as in previous editions- with a top-quality event.

A remaining element this time around is the existence of a blue-ribbon panel of experts in charge of judging all artworks by galleries and antique shops, bearing in mind their authenticity and state of preservation. With that view in mind, the panel has gathered some fifty specialists from a number of art disciplines who will make a thorough appraisal of those pieces that will be eventually bought.

It’s important to underscore that in this event archeological pieces will rub elbows with works created by contemporary artists, such as painters and sculptors. In the case of sculptures, there’ll have a privileged position in the fair, featuring a variety of styles, techniques and epochs, from the 13th century’s Virgin with Thirsty Child to a hexagonal, all-steel kinetic-art piece dated in 1974.

Just another alluring offer will be the jewelry contest, featuring classic pieces and others coming out of the latest fashion designs. Jewels are blessed with a number of virtues, including their exceptional ability to keep their esthetic strength intact as time rolls on. Thorough and solid techniques of ancient jewelry making give these gems the necessary reliability to claim their position in today’s world market. From Nov. 20 thru 28, some of Spain’s finest jewelries will be attending FERIARTE, let alone a multitude of gem experts and goldsmiths.

Among the top exhibitors coming to this event, there are some boldface names like A. Iruretagoyena, with a collection of original jewels made between the 18th and the 20th centuries, and featuring an array of styles ranging from Art Deco to Chevalier. Other keynote attendees will be Vendôme, by the hand of Pilar Cambronero, an expert in gems and ancient jewels, who will showcase her finest pieces designed for the most demanding clientele. At the same time, Joyería Chico will attend the fair with a vast collection of pieces from the 19th century, as well as jewels designed by Boucheron, Chaumet, Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin and Mellerio, among others. Jesus Vico will also attend with gold rings featuring chiseled masks in agate, made in Rome somewhere between the 1st and 2nd centuries B.C.
