Despite a long tradition in the circus, Spain did not expect a big festival in this legendary art that everyone loves. Since 2008 it became true what is now known as the International Circus Festival of Albacete.
From that year, the lavish Circus Theater has become host of such an event. Hundreds of artists have passed through the stage, about to become a privileged place in the Iberian Peninsula. Entrepreneurs, company directors, photographers, critics and, of course, the present protagonists.
In all these events the presence of the National Circus of Cuba has been notorious. In the first edition it won a bronze medal in the hands of gymnasts Leosvel & Diosmani mast. A year later the troupe Ovalerys repeated the same metal as a reward, and the twins Fernandez, in a lyrical duet of force, conquered the silver.
Cuba unsuccessfully submitted with other varieties in 2010 and 2014, until in 2015 the young troupe of Havana Company of the National Circus of Cuba, which had been awarded in Circuba 2014, louded cheers that shook the Circus Theatre, and not only with applause, but through continuous movements that caused the fascinating Caribbean rhythms in the style of Laritza Bacallao interpreters (Que suenen los tambores) and the globally popular Descemer Bueno (Bailando).
The Golden Cirquijote and Popularity was the precious conquest seized from prestigious acts from other countries who chose these places. Therefore, the Citta di Latina Festival, through the Italian association Giulio Montico, awarded its prize to these guys, who shared their first international experience in this type of fights leaving the wide door.
No less important was the performance of the Cuban artist Lisandra Cross. Elegant air movements, precise technical executions, interpretive virtuosity and the most interesting thing: the costume design she wore for her act. Considered by many the most beautiful of the event, she managed to combine a piece of aerial fabric and musical fusion of traditional and contemporary styles.
In the words of Antonio Alvarez, director of Albacete festival, one of the things he was proposed when he conceived the event in 2011 was having the best artists in the world. Cuban artists now are among the best. The proof is in this issue: The Havana company of National Circus of Cuba has achieved the two most prestigious awards and popularity of the festival: the Golden Cirquijote and the prize awarded by the public. It is a pleasure for him to have the assistance of artists from this level to compete with the best in the world. The technical level of the Creoles is amazing, but you can not forget the art: the evolution of the circus in recent years has been meteoric and we must continue like that. Remember that this is a show, we do it for the public, and they are our greatest support.
