Estampa, the great autumn event of the art market in Spain

The XXVI edition of the ESTAMPA FAIR, which will be held between October 18th and 21st at the IFEMA facilities, will include the participation of 75 contemporary art galleries and 5 institutional projects with nearly a thousand national and international artists, included in the general program as well as in the commission program Contraindications and in the Solo Projects section and the institutional program. This edition, co-organized by IFEMA, means the consolidation of this fair as the great autumn event of the art market in Spain and a reference for galleries and collecting in our country.

General Program, Contraindications and Solo Projects

The General Program stands out for the level of the participating galleries and for the significance of the presented projects. It is worth mentioning, galleries and projects such as Juana de Aizpuru (Madrid), Carreras Múgica (Bilbao), Moisés Pérez de Albéniz (Madrid), Max Estrella (Madrid), Cayón Gallery (Madrid, Menorca, Manila) Espacio Bernal (Madrid), Miguel Marcos (Barcelona), Carlos Carvalho Contemporary Art (Lisbon), Rafael Ortiz (Seville), Juan Silió (Santander), Pilar Serra (Madrid), Paz y Comedias or Punto (both from Valencia), José de la Mano (Madrid), T20 and Art Nueve (from Murcia) or Yusto / Giner (Málaga), among others. The Contraindications program commissioned by Guillermo Espinosa has invited galleries and artists to break both the unity of thought and the linearity of exposition to confront ideas and aesthetics that are difficult to reconcile. Six galleries participate in this proposal: Espacio Valverde (Madrid), Isabel Hurley (Malaga), EspaiTáctel (Valencia), Ponce + Robles (Madrid), Espacio Olivera (Seville) and Saro León (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria). In addition, this edition will show a series of five Solo Projects by other artists from the galleries José de la Fuente (Santander) with Tania Blanco, Rafael Pérez Hernando (Madrid) with Felicidad Moreno, ATM (Gijón) with Jesús Herrera, F2 (Madrid) with Katja Angeli and Rosa Santos (Valencia) with Mira Bernabeu.

Guest artist

Ángela de la Cruz (A Coruña, 1965), invited artist in this edition, will exhibit a series of paintings specifically  made for the fair. Awarded in 2017 with the National Prize of Plastic Arts, she will also play the leading role in one of the forums that will analyze the renewal and the transgression in Spanish painting, directed by Fernando Castro Flórez.

A suspicious truth

In collaboration with the Madrid City Council and commissioned by Violeta Janeiro, the project A Suspicious Truth will be developed by showing the work of several international artists who use filming from different genre. In the project are participating the Portuguese Filipa César and the British Louis Henderson with the film Sunstone; The group Los ingrávidos with Coyolxauhqui from México; the Spanish Eli Cortiñas with the movie Quella che camina; Pauline Curnier Jardin, with Explosion Ma Baby from France; Nazli Dincel, with Between Relating and Use from Turkey; Tatiana Fuentes Sadowski, with La Huella from Perú; Sophie Mallet, with Our Gelatinus Past from the United Kingdom and Jean-Gabriel Périot with the screening of De la joie dans ce combat from France, among others. Most of them are films that are presented for the first time in the national context. This program is completed with two round tables that will be develop in a performative manner and in which Marla Jacarilla, who works on falsification based on discourse, and Eulalia Valdosera, whose work unfolds from phenomenology and the psych.

International artistic residencies

For the third consecutive year, hablarenarte organizes Residencies Exchange, the ESTAMPA Curatorial Program, with the support of the Spanish Cultural Action Program (AC / E in Spanish) for the Internationalization of Spanish Culture (PICE) and the collaboration of AECID and Matadero Madrid.

The meeting, which is taking place at the same time that Estampa Fair, has as its main objective to introduce them to the Spanish artistic sphere and generate networks between local and international cultural agents, meanwhile it places value on the figure of artistic residences as fundamental spaces for the support of creation.

The participants in Residencies Exchange will be Elke aus dem Moore of Akademie Schloss Solitude (Stuttgart, Germany), Lily Liu of Taipei Artist Village (Taipei, Taiwan), Christoph Tannert of Künstlerhaus Bethanien (Berlin, Germany), Anne Langlois of 40m Cube Generator ( Rennes, France), Sally De Kunst from Arc Artistic Residency (Romainmôtier, Switzerland), Piotr Sikora from MeetFactory (Prague, Czech Republic), Helen Carey from Fire Station (Dublin, Ireland) and Elisa Troiano from Cripta747 (Turin, Italy).

National projects / Institutional program

The institutional stand of Castilla-La Mancha this year will be dedicated  to the Municipal Museum of Valdepeñas and its collection of the Painting Prize with an exhibition commissioned by Enrique Andrés Ruiz who will moderate a table with the critic Juan Manuel Bonet and Jesús Martín, mayor of Valdepeñas and Member of the  Committee of the Culture  Senate . The goal of the regional government  in the context of the fair, is to make known the vitality of contemporary art in this autonomous community, whose historical task of promotion and dissemination of culture and art in our country has fundamental reference institutions in Cuenca and Toledo.

On the other hand, the participation of the Museum of Contemporary Spanish Engraving brings a sample of the most recent engravings made by Jaume Plensa, one of the Spanish artists with the greatest international projection in our days, National Prize for Graphic Art and National Prize for Plastic Arts, among many other recognitions.
Acquisition awards and residence scholarships. 

The prizes of acquisition and artistic residencies that are granted in Estampa are another of the most outstanding aspects due to their amount and importance. As in previous editions, the prize-acquisition DKV Collection, the Comunidad de Madrid / Estampa award, the Estampa / Casa Velázquez scholarship, the Navacerrada Collection purchase prizes, Campocerrado Collection, Kells Collection, will be delivered during the fair: Jiménez Rivero Collection and the Best ESTAMPA Stand Award  2018.
