Leo Brouwer to direct Bogotá Philharmonic Young Orchestra

Bogota, Colombia.- Versatile Cuban maestro Leo Brouwer will direct today Bogotá Philharmonic Young Orchestra during a concert as part of the 9th Cartagena International Music Festival, in the coast of the Caribbean region of Colombia.

 

Before this presentation, around midday, the famous musician will talk in the Santa Clara Chapel, in Cartagena de Indias, with Argentinean Diego Fisherman, music critic, journalist and 2007 Konex Award.

 

Before Brouwer’s concert, the Serie Nuevo Mundo will be presented in the Conventions Center in the Colombian capital city, which will include the presentations of Angel Padilla in the harp and Vicente Amigo quartet. At night, Kudsi Erguner quintet, accompanied by Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra, directed by Leonardi Marulanda, will perform at Plaza de San Pedro also as part of the Festival.

 

The presence of the Cuban musician is stood out by the main newspaper in Cartagena, El Universal, which published a wide biographical sketch on the famous guitarist.

 

When referring to the Brouwer’s career, the Colombian newspaper asserts the prestigious Cuban director has directed more than 100 symphony orchestras and chamber ensembles around the world, and he has taken part as jury in several international contests of guitar, composition and orchestra direction. It also highlights that Leo Brouwer has a wide discography with over 750 registers and a catalog of more than 300 works that include almost every genre and musical form.

 

El Universal also mentions his prolific musical career inside and outside Cuba, his time in Germany as Guest Composer in Berlin’s Academy of Arts and Science and his work as Permanent Director of Cordoba orchestra, in Spain, where he received the 1998 Manuel de Falla Award.
