Sector Reforma: A New Volume

Eight years ago, Mexicans Javier Cardenas Tavizon, Santino Escatel and Alejandro Fournier created Sector Reforma group in order to influence urban spaces through fine arts. In 2011 they exhibit in Zapopan Art Museum (MAZ) a volume that showcases the visual works displayed Analco neighborhood’s exhibition site.

It might seem kind of paradoxical: it’ hard to show in white and black the expression of a free and transforming artistic practice, but for the members of Sector Reforma it is a key moment in their careers, for it “represents how interested we are in this project”. The record is put together within 235 pages (in pictures) related to their own exhibitions or guest artists. The book, divided in two sections, displays in the first one some 60 projects, created between 2003 and 2010, in and out of the gallery (Guadalupe Victoria 398, Guadalajara, Jalisco), and the second section is dedicated to the history of Sector Reforma. Likewise, an interview with the artists, by Guillermo Santamarina, was included.

Sector Reforma has been one of the most famous projects on contemporary art in recent years, in Mexico, due to its peculiar and stunning insertion in the society. It has promoted the intervention of young talents into public and private spaces, with based-on-self-management projects. They have even organized international exhibitions in their gallery. They have gathered some 200 artists, whose offers are displayed in the book, which is planned to be distributed in libraries of national museums and spaces dedicated to fine arts.

The book, and a thousand copies, counted on a joint investment grant by the National Fund for Culture and Arts (FONCA). It had been already launched in April, Mexico City, within the framework of ZonaMACO.
