Echoes of the Venice Biennial

The Carla Rey Contemporary Art Gallery in Buenos Aires is the venue of choice for a theoretical course on the Venice Biennial –taught by Rodrigo Alonso– that kicked off last Monday Sept. 5.

Two other sessions will get underway next week, on Sept. 12 and 19. The lectures will shed light on the young contemporary arts presented in Los Arsenales and featuring representations from Argentina, the U.S., Germany, Spain and other nations.

Rodrigo Alonso was the curator of Argentina’s shipment of artworks for the 54th Venice Biennial. He has a degree in arts and is specialized in contemporary art and new media. This theoretician and researcher in the field of technological art is a boldface name in the field of Latin America’s artistic creation. Many of his essays and books on these matters have been published on a regular basis in art periodicals, magazines and catalogs. As a freelance curator, Alonso has planned exhibitions in major institutions in both Argentina and overseas. Some of them are Sistemas, acciones y procesos, 1965-1975 (Fundación Proa, Buenos Aires, 2011), Situating No Land (Slought Foundation, Philadelphia, 2011), Tales of Resistance and Change (Frankfurter Kunstverein, Frankfurt, 2010) and ¡Afuera! Arte en espacios públicos (Córdoba, Argentina, 2010, together with Gerardo Mosquera), among many others. He teaches in colleges and universities in Argentina, Latin America and Europe. He’s also served stints as juror and advisor for contests, awards and international foundations. He lives and works in Buenos Aires and Barcelona.

The Carla Rey Contemporary Art Gallery is devoted to the marketing of contemporary pieces created by Argentine, Colombian and Mexican artists.
