Buenos Aires: Serigraphy on Ceramic

Beginning last Friday, the Casa Bruzzone de Mar del Plata Museum will start a crash seminar on Serigraphy on Ceramic taught by artist Silvia Barrios and aimed at delving deeper into serigraphy techniques which are so necessary for the development of continuous graphics.

For three days, participants go deeper into such serigraphy-related aspects as the use of ceramic and glass, vitrifying tracings, photoceramics and the dry rope engrossing technique.

Silvia Barrios is a visual artist that has specialized in ceramic and serigraphy, especially from a standpoint of color experimentation. She studied Art History at the MNBA, as well as painting, drawing, ceramic and photography with outstanding professors. She honed her technique in Italy’s Florence, where she took a number of courses on painting and modeling back in 2006. Barrios is a member of GAC (Grupo Argentino del Color). She was granted a scholarship in 2007 to cover her residency in China’s Jingdezhen, China –the city of porcelain– as one of Argentina’s representatives in that particular field. Her artworks are exposed in collections at the Museum of Contemporary Pottery and in the hands of private collectors. In 2008, Cuba’s National League of Artists and Writers (UNEAC) gave her an honorary recognition, followed by the Artes de Fuego Award in Venezuela a year later. In Dec. 2010, she took part in the 7th International Symposium on Artistic Pottery in the city of Camaguey, Cuba. Her pieces have been exposed in Mexico, Uruguay, Cuba, Venezuela, China, Spain, Italy and her homeland Argentina. In 2010 she opened the first lab-workshop of pottery-related serigraphy in Camaguey.
