Arte Lisboa, This Month

Arte Lisboa contemporary art fair returns in 2011 to Parque de las Naciones, with almost 40 galleries invited (Portuguese and Spanish) and 21 individual projects, totally some 500 works.

Its eleventh edition–to be held on November 23 - 27–counts on the support of the Portuguese Association of Art Galleries, Lisbon Tourism and that city’s Municipal House.

The Fair is aimed at the promotion of Portuguese and international contemporary art, shortening distances with the buying public, collectors, and standing as meeting point for creators from several generations.

It will be the first time for Propuestas-Arte space, with individual projects created by Portuguese artists, who are represented by galleries attending the fair. The program also includes, in association with Anti Frame Independent Curating project, a debate cycle opened to the public with the participation of gallery owners, museum directors and art centers, cultural managers, collectors, among others, who will be tackling topics such as the relation among artists, the institution and the market, and the situation of contemporary creators in the unstable European societies.

There will be 111 galleries attending Arte Lisboa 2011: (Lisbon, Porto), Alecrim50 (Lisbon), Allarts Gallery (Lisbon), Antonio Prates (Lisbon), Art Lounge (Lisbon), Arte Periferica (Lisbon), Baginski (Lisbon), Carlos Carvalho (Lisbon), Filomena Soares (Lisbon), Fonseca Macedo (Açores), Influx Contemporary Art (Lisbon), João Esteves de Oliveira (Lisbon), Miguel Nabinho (Lisbon), Modulo (Lisbon), Monumental (Lisbon), Nuno Sacramento (Ilhavo), Perve (Lisbon), Presença (Porto), São Mamede (Lisbon, Porto), Trindade (Porto), Valbom (Lisbon), Alba Cabrera (Valencia, Spain), Alonso Vidal (Barcelona), Alvaro Alcazar (Madrid), Angeles Baños (Badajoz), Astarte (Madrid), Blanca Berlin (Madrid), Juan Silio (Santander), Maria Llanos (Caceres), Nuble (Santander), Paz y Comedias (Valencia), SCQ (Santiago de Compostela) and Vertice (Oviedo).

This is an excellent augury for Arte Lisboa, as the fair is an evidence of the growing interest of the local private sector on contemporary art in a country where particular collecting is being focused on new creations, following important initiatives, such as Berardo Collection Museum’s from Belem Cultural Center or Espirito Santo Bank’s on contemporary photography.
