World Press Photo 2013: Call Open through January

One of the most prestigious photojournalism prizes, World Press Photo, invites visual journalism professionals from every corner of Earth to participate in the upcoming 2013 edition, to be celebrating its 56th anniversary.

 

A jury made up of professional photographers, graphic editors and representatives from press agencies is going to meet in Amsterdam during the second month of 2013, at the organization’s official head office. The registration is open for photojournalists and agencies, as well as newspapers and magazines. There will be prizes for several categories: Today’s news, Highly topical subjects, Contemporary subjects, Daily life, Portraits of anonymous people, Celebrity portraits, Nature, Sports in action or sport photography.

 

The awarded snapshots are going to be displayed all over the world, as part of a traveling exhibition that will be visiting one hundred cities. The winners are going to received cash prizes and professional photographic material. First, second and third positions per category are going to be given 1,500 euro; the second and third positions and honorable mentions will receive the Golden Eye Award and one diploma; while the first one, chosen to be delivered the 2013 World Press Photo, is also going to be handed 10,000 euro, a professional digital reflex camera and a lenses kit, a courtesy of CANON.

 

The organizers of this event are trying to bring about public interest and awareness on the work of professional photographers, as well as free information sharing. Among the actions they are carrying out to reach their goal, they have organized exhibition, encouraged photojournalism through educative programs and the search of visibility for press photography through different publications.

 

The call will be open through January 17, 2013.
