This is the first time that Cranford Collection, which counts on over seven hundred contemporary artworks including painting, sculpture, photography, installations, videos and drawings, exhibits a selection of its heritage in Madrid. Banco Santander Foundation was in charge of organizing the project, which is open to viewers at Sala de Arte de la Ciudad Financiera.
Out of the house, curated by Anne Pontegnie, proposes 92 pieces by 26 outstanding British and German artists such as Damien Hirst, Rebecca Warren, Franz West, Paul Noble, Spartacus Chetwynd, Martin Kippenberger, Sigmar Polke or Albert Oehlen. The showcase begins with Pierre Huyghe’s I do not own Snow White, a huge neon sign that humorously points out the ownership matter.
Some of Cranford Collection’s most controversial artworks are Sarah Lucas’, with installations such as El canalla, which features a pair of open legs wearing red panties that stick out of a chair like amputated limbs, or Que le den al destino, a red sofa bed with a fluorescent lamp, used by the artist to deal with the controversial matter of sexual policy.
"This collection is the history of my life", Muriel Salem has declared, who also says that the key to a good collector is “being patient and wait until fine artworks show up."
