Carlos Garaicoa Exhibits in Argentina with Ruth Benzacar

Cuban artist Carlos Garaicoa (Havana, 1967) exhibits his first solo show, entitled "Saving the Safe", in Argentina, at Buenos Aires’ Ruth Benzacar gallery.

The artist has commented that "Saving the Safe show, with the participation of Argentina’s Central Bank and the Bank of Argentina Nation, goes deeper into the country’s recent history, specifically its implications during the “corralito”. Furthermore, the display questions the role played by some international bank entities in recent politic crisis. This is the first work of a series made up of such buildings as the International Monetary Fund, Bundesbank, etc.

The second installation features an eight-page portfolio, and each page refers to a country that has recently faced popular protests linked to the so-called economic crisis: Ireland, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Italy or Cyprus. Each page reflects one word used by the demonstrators, on their placards, to criticize politicians, police officers, bankers or the overall situation (Chorizos, Puppets, Enough!, Chorros, No!, Astinomya) and a symbol identifying each country i shown at the lower area."

The display, inaugurated on October 2, will be opened through November 8.
