Fondo A UA CRAG al muro

This display is a bid to shed light on the role played by the documentary fund of the self-managed and artistic production collective from Castilla y Leon, A UA CRAG, on a daily basis and its artistic practice between 1985 and 1996. Titled ‘A UA CRAG fund to the wall’, it goes deep into the only documentary fund on artists at Castilla and Leon’s Museum of Contemporary Art, which gathers the historic and artistic memory of one of the most acclaimed and important artistic collectives of the community. In the same breath, it looks into the relation between documentary funds in museums and their exhibition and public communication, within a context where museum institutions are places to deposit these pieces of heritage that range from the documentary to the artistic as such.

A UA GRAG is a self-managed and artistic production collective that was born in Aranda de Duero (Burgos) in 1985 and finished its career in 1996 with the exhibition at Rita Garcia Gallery (Valencia). It’s a pioneer experience in the autonomous community of Castilla and Leon, in terms of its self-managed organization style and the type of artistic projects it has developed, which include the creation of its own art gallery; experiences of artistic production, exchange and debate with international artists; or educational workshops and publications; the whole package is constantly linked to the territorial, social and temporal context they lived.

Laboratorio 987: A pause to reflect. Production, management and creation scholarships at MUSAC

Castilla and Leon’s Museum of Contemporary Art has developed, since 2003, an active policy of scholarships related to artistic creation, research and production. In an effort to put on the map the work it has done, Laboratorio 987 showcases a display that includes artworks created throughout the past ten years.

This project calls to reflect on the opportunity and the importance of cultural production, its determining factors and role at social level, in order to understand the fundamental dimension of culture as a whole, particularly art. So getting to know this capital sphere of culture in the 21st century gives the opportunity to satisfy a lack expressed by many artists (especially the younger artists) and cultural and social agents, and respond to a need that has been repeatedly expressed as a main element of the art system.

Proyecto Vitrinas: From the map to the territory. Collective and independent spaces in Castilla & Leon

MUSAC’s Proyecto Vitrinas showcases From the map to the territory. Collective and independent spaces in Castilla & Leon, a proposal aimed at fostering artistic projects, collectives and spaces in this autonomous community, taking in to account that these initiatives –which are usually managed by artists and cultural activists– give an opportunity to understand the structure of artistic and cultural production in any territory. The project, structured on www.mapaterritorio.org , tries to tackle the evolution – since the 1980s – of an apparently non-visible sector, whose participation and implication in the socio-cultural development is the key to evaluate and analyze the role played by contemporary art in the community of Castilla and Leon.
