Arturo O'Farrill dedicates concert to Chano Pozo at Cubadisco 2015

The performance of Arturo O’Farrill and his Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, which dedicated this special concert to Luciano Pozo (Chano), one of the most important Cuban percussionists, was very intimate and full of different influences.

On occasion of the 100th birthday of this defender of the son montuno and Afro-Cuban jazz music, the pianist and composer of Mexican origin and son of Cuban illustrious trumpeter, Chico O'Farrill, played for the audience several contemporary pieces, as part of the 19th International Festival Cubadisco 2015.

Having won the International Award in this edition with the CD The Offense of the Drum, O'Farrill shared stage with some Cuban musicians like Adel González, Alexis Bosch, Yasek Manzano, Pancho Terry and the Cuban Radio and Television Institute choir.

We are giving continuity to the seed planted by my father, along with Chano Pozo, and celebrating his legacy, along with the joy of bringing together Cuban and American musicians, he stated at the event which took place at Havana’s Mella Theater.

With themes like Intruso (Intruder)  and 24 horas en la vida de un perro (24 hours in a dog’s life), the pianist recalled the values of these musicians, and said that, without Cuba, there is no jazz in the world.

During the recital, Jorge Gómez, president of the jury of Cubadisco Award, officially granted the prize to O'Farrill, and added this event gains prestige with this award.
