Presence of the Cuban Fund of Cultural Asstes at the 12th Havana Biennial

By: Adalys Pérez

Mostly devoted to the promotion and marketing of an important part of the art produced in our country, the Cuban Fund of Cultural Goods (in Spanish, FCBC) is once more ready to profit the privilege scenario offered by the 12th edition of Havana Biennial, the most comprehensive of all those events related to Visual Arts developed in Cuba.

The opening, in the last three years of six new art galleries and  a publishing house aimed at publishing catalogues and books, are some of the breakthroughs which have allowed this entity a more active participation, which began last Monday with the inauguration of Touch Down art exhibition at The Merger Studio-Workshop.

Moreover, before the official opening of the Biennial on May 22, the FCBC will be sponsoring other collateral actions, such as the collective exhibit between The Merger and Rafael Pérez Alonso at La Lavanderia Studio-Workshop, and the workshop that, throughout a month Jeff will be developing at Miramar Trade Center.

One of the most attractive activities of the FCBC will be the performance Los colores de la vida, by Manuel Mendive that will be on May 25, at 6:00 PM, at the Cathedral Square and which will finish at Víctor Manuel art gallery, a facility that will open to the public one of its rooms for this Biennial.

A personal exhibit by the same artist will be inaugurated at Collage Habana gallery during the first half of June.

Another personal exhibition which stands out is Persistencia (Persistence), by Roberto Fabelo, whose opening is scheduled for May 28, at 7 pm, at the Artis 718 art gallery.

The third edition of HB mega exhibition, which joins, for the first time, other two art selling companies: Galería Habana and Génesis art galleries will offer, from May 21, a wide catalogue of 58 authors at room D in Pabexpo, with installations and large format works.

The AB+C art exhibit returns with works by twenty prestigious artists belonging to the 1970s and 1980s generations, exhibited at Hotel Nacional de Cuba’s Tanganana salon since May 24.

Another collective exhibit sponsored by the FCBC that may be seen during the Havana Biennial is the one entitled Territorios (Territories) that will be opened on May 20, at 3 pm, at Galiano art gallery, which sums up the almost first two years of work of this space focused on the emerging production of the Caribbean Archipelago.

Bifurcaciones (Bifurcations) is the title of another collective exhibit that will have the peculiarity of bringing together three representative groups of contemporary industrial design, with renowned artists from the Visual Arts, who work on design supports and which, from May 20, will offer at Arte-Facto gallery, a look on the thin line separating both manifestations.

Collage ediciones will also have a significant presence at the 12th Havana Biennial, with the launching of four single titles, including the exhibition catalog Lazaro Saavedra will present at the Galiano art gallery by early this year. Furthermore, he will present several writings edited along with ArteCubano Ediciones.

The FCBC also had an active collaboration in the production of the catalog and graphics that will accompany the Zona Franca (Free Zone) art exhibition, to take place at the Morro Cabaña historical-military park during the big event of contemporary visual arts that will be extended until June 22, 2015.
