Arturo Montoto with two projects at the 12th Havana Biennial

Jardines invisibles and Sitio del agua at the upcoming 12th Havana Biennial, which opens on May 22.

Speaking to AIN News Agency, he said that Jardines invisibles consists of eight pieces of large format, made from an aesthetic budget, dealing with the hedonic aspect of his work over the last decades. The background is El Jardín de Epicuro art exhibit from 2010, which was displayed at El Reino de este Mundo art gallery.

He said the exhibit will open to the public next May 21, at 4 pm, at the Free Zone of El Morro-Cabaña historical-military park.

He stressed that its name has to do with the fact that the fruits appearing in his paintings this time have a barrier, a fence of iron bars, a lattice of metal or objects that prevent the viewer to look directly at the images.

Once more, those attending this exhibition will experience that sensual magnetism that invites to touch, smell or taste the fruits they represent, since they achieve to capture the rich textures, the magic of an atmosphere, and the forthrightness of those gifts of nature leading us to the epicurean enjoyment, to the direct experience.

About Sitio del agua, he stated it is a collective exhibition, a result of the Visual Creation course he taught to adults amateur of crafts, coming from different municipalities of Havana. This course took place at his studio in Guanabacoa and lasted two years.

The exhibition will be inaugurated on May 18, at 5pm, at the former Wood and Snuff Warehouse, located on Avenida del Puerto and San Ignacio Streets, in Old Havana.

These students have been submitted to a process of call, screening and conceptual and technical training, which allows them participate in any professional event of visual arts.
