French and Cuban Artists Join for a Project in Lyon and Havana

A group of artists from the French city of Lyon carry out a joint project of the National Higher School of that city with students from the Cuban University of the Arts at the 12th Biennial of Havana, to open on May 22.

Yenizer Gomez, who traveled with the French creators, told ACN that this is the first time they have this type of exchange, which they want to reedit in Lyon between the months of September and January.

He stressed that both cities are venues of important art biennials and that they have important art schools, that in 2015 they hold these meetings and that this is the reason why they wanted to come to bring their proposals and share experiences.

He said that for this purpose they chose a house located on 24th Street, number 407, between 23rd and 25trh streets, in Havana’s Vedado neighborhood, where seven artists from Lyon and six Cuban students live, who change the space and hold exchanges with the public.

He underlined that they were inspired by the central theme of this 12th Biennial - From ideas to experience- and that each creator develops his or her work and interacts with others in a process of mutual enrichment. More than a thousand artists participate in this edition of this art fiesta in the Cuban capital.

He announced that there will be a pre-opening, on May 23, at six o'clock, and that on May 25, at the same time, the official opening will take place.

On this occasion, the Biennial promotes taking art out of the usual exhibition sites, for which more than 190 projects by over 400 creators are scattered throughout the city, aimed at contacting the public and communities with proposals of contemporary art in Cuba and in many other countries.
