Royal Ballet to present Carlos Acosta’s Don Quixote in United States

The London Royal Ballet will start a tour through the United States next June 9 presenting the choreographic version  Cuban dancer Carlos Acosta conceived of Don Quixote ballet, as announced recently North American cultural organizations.

 

The first performance of the most recent world adaptation of the famous classic ballet will be starred by the choreographer himself and the Argentinian dancer Marianela Núñez, star of the British company, at the Kennedy Center Opera House in this capital.

 

The shows from June 10 to 14 at this same theatre will be starred by Sarah Lamb and Federico Bonelli, Iana Salenko and Steven McRae, Natalia Osipova and Matthew Golding, and Roberta Marquez and Alexander Campbell.

 

Don Quixote present version had great critic and public recognition in its premiere in London in 2013 and in the Chinese city of Shanghai in 2014.

 

On its part, the UK Critics’ Circle conferred Acosta this year the National Prize of Dance in recognition to his achievements during a whole life devoted to that art.

 

Don Quixote will be the Royal Ballet presentation card in Chicago and Washington, but in New York the company will bet to a most risky repertoire, as informed director Kevin O'Hare.

 

Referring to the ballets selected for the concert program in that city big city, the Director highlighted “Song of the earth” and “Infra” choreographies of British Kenneth MacMillan and Wayne McGregor, respectively, both creators with a more contemporary style.
