Seven Pianists to Perform in International Cultural Event in Havana

Havana.- Artists from seven countries will perform in Havana as part of the Third Meeting of Young Pianists to be held from June 4 to 28 in cultural institutions of the Cuban capital, the organizers said Monday. The event will be attended by musicians from the United States, Russia, Taiwan, South Korea, Spain, China and the host country.

This meeting will also include the celebration of the V Competition and International Piano Festival Musicalia-2015, announced the president of its organizing committee, Ulises Hernandez.

According to the Historian of Havana Eusebio Leal Spengler, the competition aims to promote the artistic creation and performance, as well as showing the results of the Cuban academic practice and promoting exchanges between students and teachers of music education.

Additionally, the launch of the books "Ignacio Cervantes y la danza en Cuba", by Salomon Gadles; and "El legado pianístico pedagógico de Salomón Gadles", by Kookhee Hong, will take place.

The next issue of the magazine Opus Habana -which includes articles dedicated to an interview with the great Cuban guitarist and composer Leo Brouwer and another with Gadles, a Cuban musician living in New York- will also be presented.

During a meeting with the press at the Basílica Menor del Convento de San Francisco de Asís of Havana, the US pianist Adam Kent said he was pleased with the event.

Meanwhile, Gadles considered Cuba has produced great teachers and pianists, although some have not had the publicity they deserve, so it is very important for the island to host this international event, he concluded.
