Leonardo Padura awarded with the Princess of Asturias Prize for Letters

Cuban writer Leonardo Padura won the Princess of Asturias Prize for Letters in Spain last Wednesday. 

According to the act of the jury that was read by its president and director of the Royal Spanish Academy, Darío Villanueva, Padura is a definitely contemporary and enrooted in his tradition author, he is an investigator of the cult and the popular, an independent intellectual of firm ethic temperament.

From the fiction, Padura shows the challenges and the limits in the search of the truth, an impeccable exploration of the story and its ways of telling it, affirms the act.

Padura, novelist and journalist, mostly known for his crime novels starred by the detective Mario Conde, won the 2012 Literature National Prize in his country.

Among his works highlight the novels La novela de mi vida, Herejes, Vientos de cuaresma, Pasado perfecto, Máscaras, Paisaje de otoño, Adiós Hemingway, Fiebre de caballos and El hombre que amaba los perros. He has also written several short story books and films scripts that have been awarded like the documentary Yo soy del son a la salsa,  Coral Prize at the 18 International Festival of the New Latin American Cinema of Havana.
