Montecarlo Ballet Will Close Havana's Theater Festival

Three performances of "Cinderella" by the Montecarlo Ballet will close the 16th edition of Havana's International Theater Festival next October, National Performing Arts Council confirmed. The Ballet will perform on October 30th and 31st as well as November 1st at the Avellaneda Hall of the Cuba's National Theater The 16th edition of the festival will include the performance of the National Company of the Principality of Monaco.

 

The company was founded in 1936 and after a perios of inactiviry was ewinstituted by Her Royal Highness Princess of Hannover, fulfilling the wishes of her mother, Princess Grace of Monaco.

 

The company's directors then were two legends of the Paris Opera Ghislaine Thesmar and Pierre Lacotte, although the French Jean-Christophe Maillot has been the one who has spent more time heading the company (1993 till present), and is the author of the Cinderella version they will perform in Havana.

 

Maillot has been awarded the Benois Prize and the Nijinsky award for his choreographic work.
