San Juan.- Cuban bandleader Chucho Valdes, winner of five Grammys and three Latin Grammy Awards, will hold a concert next November 13 in San Juan as part of his international tour ''Irakere 40'', informed the local media recently. 'To perform in Puerto Rico is very special to me', said via telephone to local media the pianist and music arranger, who will perform at the Performing Arts Center in San Juan.
Valdes, who is also a composer, said that the concert on the island will include the most representative hits of Irakere. The program includes the performance of Afro-cuban Messengers, a band representing the new generation of Cuban musicians.
The tour is a tribute to the group founded more than 40 years ago in Havana, led by Valdes, which played an important role in Latin jazz due to the fusion of various musical genres.
The tour began in Europe and later will continue in the US cities of San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington, Boston and New York, among others.
