Betty Laird Perry. MFA Award Winner

The Betty Laird Perry Emerging Artist Collection comprises works of art obtained through purchase awards granted to selected BFA and MFA students graduating from FIU. This spring semester we are pleased to announce the Betty Laird Perry MFA award winner, Lorna Ruth Galloway.

Galloway is a graduating MFA printmaker and a native Floridian, with a passion for printmaking and photography. In her work, she recreates Ed Ruscha’s Twenty Six Gasoline Stations with images from the video game Grand Theft Auto V. Galloway captures images during the game, uploads them to Rockstar Games Social Club, then downloads the photographs and digitally alters them.

With this technique, she creates images in charcoal of an “Any Town, USA” that serve as a sensitive homage to a place and its disappearance. Lorna’s goals after graduating are to teach at the university level and encourage others students to explore a career in the arts.
