International Award Granted to Cuban Flamenco Work by Irene Garcia

Havana.- Cuban flamenco dancer Irene Rodriguez was granted The award for Excellence for the best choreography, given during the International Meeting of Ballet Schools. She was given the award at the first competition of choreography held in the 22nd meeting, which sought to foster the creative development of young artists, said organizers.

Unanimously, the jury decided to award Rodriguez for the visual and artistic values, as well as the strength of the work Andalucia, performed by the students of the school directed by the Company Irene Rodriguez.

This company, founded barely some four years ago, has made tours across the United States and the Dominican Republic with a repertoire with classic elements of Spanish dances but also incorporating contemporary ones.

Irene Rodriguez, leading dancer, choreographer and director, has also been granted the award of the 8th Latin American Contest of Choreography Alicia Alonso.

The 22nd International Meeting of Ballet Schools was held from March 19th to April 2nd and gathered representatives from Mexico, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Bolivia, Argentina, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Peru, Panama, Italy, France, United States and Cuba.
