Matanzas, Cuba.- The choir formed of former female students from Smith College, Alexandria, Virginia, will give the first of two performances, in Cuba, of the Italian baroque repertoire. Havana's Chamber Orchestra, the orchestra Musica Eterna and the male sections of the choirs Exaudi and DA Profundis, Sine Nominus, Schola Cantorum Coralina, Vocal Leo and Matanzas Chamber choir will join the orchestra.
Jose Antonio Mendez Valencia, director of the latter choir, told the news agency Prensa Latina that the performance today will be at the church San Pedro Apostol in Matanzas, 100 kilometers from Havana.
Mendez Valencia specified that the concert would consist of playing the pieces Gloria, by Antonio Vivaldi and Stabat Mater, by Giovanni Battista Pergolessi and would be conducted by U.S. Maestro, Jonathan Hirsh.
"The visit to our country adds to the list of other choirs who have visited from the United States and is a valuable exchange for musicians and groups," added Mendez Valencia.
The choir of former Smith College students has planned its second performance in Cuba for tomorrow, with the same program. The venue will be the Covarrubias hall in the capital.
