From 6 to 9 October 2016, CROSSROADS Art Show will showcase the highest quality contemporary art from around the world at The Old Truman Brewery in East London. Providing a chance to experience the most current trends and works by established and emerging artists in a relaxed and convivial setting, CROSSROADS is set to become a significant addition to London’s busy cultural calendar.
Created by the team behind Pinta London, the Latin American art fair that was established in London in 2010 and which helped bring modern and contemporary art from Latin America to the attention of museums, galleries, collectors and the general public, CROSSROADS expands on the concept of the older fair. Breaking with geographical constraints to provide a fresh perspective on global art, CROSSROADS emphasises the value of cross-cultural experiences.
Bringing together galleries from different regions, CROSSROADS will present works by artists from a multitude of backgrounds and spanning different generations, who share a desire for breaking with the status quo and exploring new realms, new forms and new ideas.
The term “crossroads” encompasses almost every aspect of the art world, not just the artist, critic or curator, but also the collectors and consumers (or art lovers). “Crossroads” extends its geographic location to Spitalfields, an area of London that has a longstanding tradition of multiculturalism and diversity, bordering with the financial district of the city.
The Artistic Committee of CROSSROADS is comprised of renowned figures in today’s international art world. It includes artists and curators such as Fernando Bryce, Manuel Diaz-Cebrián, Franklin Evans, Cecilia Jurado, Bruno Leitão, Pablo León de la Barra, Federico Luger, Marta Ramos-Yzquierdo, Manuela Ribadeneira, Eva Ruiz, Aura Seikkula, Isabela Villanueva and Octavio Zaya.
CROSSROADS will feature an extensive programme of talks and panel discussions presented by international curators, artists and leading experts. Organised by curators Bruno Leitão and Marta Ramos-Yzquierdo under the concept of "Meeting Points", the programmes will consist of a series of meetings between professionals and various market participants, aimed at strengthening and expanding relationships among them, encouraging critical thinking and sharing experiences. Different topics will be discussed in forums open to the public, which will take place in areas designed as meeting points within the fair’s floorplan.
In addition, Pinta London is transformed into a platform of action and visibility for Latin American, Spanish, and Portuguese art within CROSSROADS, with special emphasis on its contemporary and more emergent expressions and on the historical precursors that give these their context.
