Crossroads Art Show. A Selection of Curatorial Projects- Part 2

During Frieze week, CROSSROADS Art Show will present the most current artistic trends in a relaxed and convivial setting, with selected curatorial projects and forty-six galleries from abroad that have been handpicked by a team of renowned curators.

A fresh, multicultural and accessible fair, CROSSROADS offers an opportunity to experience the highest quality contemporary art by established and emerging artists, from a multitude of backgrounds.

The Artistic Committee of CROSSROADS comprises renowned personalities in today’s international art world, including artists and curators from the Guggenheim Museum, the Venice Biennale and Documenta amongst others, such as Eva Ruiz, Pablo León de la Barra, Fernando Bryce, Franklin Evans, Cecilia Jurado, Bruno Leitão, Federico Luger, Marta Ramos-Yzquierdo, Manuela Ribadeneira, Aura Seikkula and Octavio Zaya.

--Below is a preview of some of the selected curatorial projects--

One of the most historically relevant installations by Cuban artist Diango Hernández, who has exhibited at MOMA, Hayward Gallery and Venice Biennale amongst others, will greet visitors at the fair, courtesy of FL Gallery, Milan. “Years” is a 14 meters long wall made of a numerical representation of the years 1959 to 2008 in rusted steel. The years mark the beginning to the end of Fidel Castro’s government. The piece has been shown in “Haus der Kunst’, Munich; “Mart Museum”, Rovereto, Italy and MOSTYN, Wales.

This is not a Restaurant is an installation by Argentine chef Martin Milesi, Founder of "UNA - One Table Experience". At UNA, Milesi brought his ideal concept to life: Only One Table/ Only Twelve Guests. His vision, a pop-up restaurant at St. Pancras Clock Tower, London, now will delight visitors at CROSSROADS through a journey through Latin American cuisine. Within an installation and screening of Food + Art video loops, three times a day, selected guests will become participants of his concept. Between servings, Milesi will also be sketching and writing recipies and thoughts on the stand. A unique sensorial experience. Friday/ Saturday and Sunday: 4.00pm/5.00pm/ 6.00pm. Please sign up at our VIP desk at reception for participation. Limited availability.

Somewhere Else is an on-site project curated by Fortunata Calabro and dedicated to the refugee crisis, with works by Juan delGado, a socially engaged artist based in London. delGado has worked extensively on this subject since long before it attained the current media attention. He has travelled to Greece, Macedonia, and Calais to record the journeys taken by different refugees. His work does not aim to capture these ‘invisible’ people; rather, his protagonists are the places that these have passed through.  While the privileged scene of an art fair might seem an unlikely place to debate such a difficult and sensitive subject, through this project CROSSROADS contributes to create further awareness on the refugee problem, enabling dialogue and discussions among artists and the public. All profits from the exhibition will be donated to Islington Centre — Refugee and Migrants (London). The project is also supported by Counterpoints Arts (London).

Ateliê Alê is an alternative art-space located in São Paulo, Brazil, with the intent to offer a laboratory for artistic and curatorial experimentation, providing an interaction between artists, curators and the public at large, through talks, courses and workshops, relating to what is most current in art today. At CROSSROADS, they will present artists that have participated in their projects, including Project LAB570, a programme of exhibitions with national and international artists that encourages the production by young artists and curators. Projeto Portão [Gate Project] uses the front of the institution creating a dialogue between the city and the studio by inviting graffiti artists to intervene with the building. Art in Residence Programme, Estudo Aberto, a residence, where artists are encouraged to start a new project with the support of curators and artists, with the possibility of displaying and discussing their final production through an exhibition at the end of the residence period.
