Rémi dal Negro, One Kick n°2 (Floor tom), 2015, Sculpted peartree wood block, varnished, Floor tom stand, cylinder 120 x 80 x 100 cm. Unique piece. Courtesy of Rémi Dal Negro & Galerie Eric MouchetFor its first participation at YIA Art Fair, Galerie Eric Mouchet wants us to discover the most promising young contemporary artists: Rémi dal Négro, Pierre Gaignard and Cyril Zarcone. After having each participated in collective and personal exhibitions at Galerie Eric Mouchet, the artists find themselves reunited at the fair to affirm the identity of the gallery: a strong identity of artistic knowledge acquired by previous generations and turned towards young, contemporary and promising creation.

Rémi Dal Negro works with the materialisation and the depiction of physical movements. A cartographer of sound and visual composition, Rémi Dal Negro puts into his bursts of creation, moments of breathing and silences that displace the habits of our senses. Attached to the study of the inaudible and the invisible, Rémi dal Negro creates works that veer towards an embodiment of the insensitive, but not only that. New ‘‘Gyro Gearloose”, uses current technologies to create devices that can recreate bad weather and the passage of time. It re-uses sculptures, video installations and other destabilising pictorial finds, such as a non-idealised sound recording of the weather, which can be considered as a modern version of the Four Seasons by Vivaldi.

Pierre Gaignard sculpts metal and directs films designed as sculptures. He likes to film people as well as distort metal. He swings between an obvious affection for insignificant, fleeting glories and a clash with gladiator scrap iron from the twenty-first century. The erotic metaphor always surfaces in Pierre’s work, from Texan bare-breasted gastronomy to the exploited sexy bus driver and the rather rowdy Valentina of Abbateggio, the image of the woman is just as mis-treated in his films as the steel of his sculptures between his wounded hands - albeit gloved – like a Mad Max boilermaker.

Pierre Gaignard, Plan de sauvetage en un peu plus grand de la xylogravure FIAT 1942 de Mario Puppo, wood engraving, 65 x 50 cmFrom Terlingua in Texas to Abbateggio in the Abruzzo region, Pierre knows how to let stories do the talking. From folklore and ancestral traditions to more recent tales that relate to him, he invents a brilliant new transcontinental mythology and cross-culture of film and iron.

Cyril Zarcone draws upon elements of building construction sites to enable us to see something other than the simple tool of construction. Self-proclaimed “Superior handyman’’, Cyril Zarcone likes that our eyes linger on the details of constructions and identifies the techniques used to create his sculptures. Often, he leaves visible traces of the processes that he has implemented to achieve his pieces and gives as much importance to the stages of construction as the final result.

“Superior DIY” such as he understands it, is the use of technicians’ tools and own techniques (elements of formwork, protection or support) that inspire him to create his works. Without training, but with his own knowledge , he examines these instruments of the construction industry and their building sites and then generally reproduces them in the same materials . He tells himself that: ‘‘DIY is not a hack but rather a means to do the best with what we have.’’

Besides, Galerie Eric Mouchet presents the outdoor installation Volée Hélicoïdale by Cyril Zarcone in the Crédit Municipale of Paris, curated by Romain Semeteys.

CYRIL ZARCONE

Cyril Zarcone was born in Marseille in 1986. He obtained his DNAP diploma in structural arts from the Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Marseille (2011). He also went on a number of exchanges in conjunction with his studies, notably at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich, but also in Brussels, Berlin, and Prague. Next, he pursued his study at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris to obtain his DNSEP diploma in sculptural expression (2013).

During his last training and after his exhibit Bricolage Supérieur (Superior DIY) at the Galerie Jeune Création (2011), he wrote, LE BRICOLAGE SUPÉRIEUR (The Superior DIY), a memoir in which he questions and explores the difference between a handyman and a sculptor. It includes chapters entitled: “The art of DIY according to Lévi-Strauss,” “DIY and Trial and Error,” and “The handymen (my neighbor and me).” Today, these chapters constitute the fundamental principles of his work. This research marks the start of a prolific process for the artist that he is today.

Cyril Zarcone is also the co-founder of ChezKit, created in 2014. This modular artist’s studio and exhibition space engages and invites different young curators once a quarter Currently on: Nous Sommes Kit (We are KIT) (2014), Irr?dux curated by Katarina Stella.

GALERIE ERIC MOUCHET,

CONTEMPORARY ART IN SAINT-GERMAIN-DES-PRÉS

Having always been an art collector, Eric Mouchet fulfilled his passion for sharing his knowledge by opening up his own gallery dedicated to contemporary art in the autumn of 2014. An expert in graphic arts near the Court of Appeal in Paris and a specialist of the pictorial drawing work of Le Corbusier, Eric Mouchet proposes a varied contemporary program,

occasionally based on artists whose work he has collected over the years.

Selected for the rigour, suitability and poetry of their work, these artists of geographically diverse origins express themselves through all different mediums, from the more traditional to some of the more current.

Witnessing the potential of Saint Germain-des-Près – the historic heart of the intellectual activity in Paris – Eric Mouchet set up his gallery located at 45 rue Jacob in order to contribute to the culturally thriving contemporary art scene on the left bank of the Seine.
