New York Film Festival Pays Homage to Cuban Director Juan Padron

New York.- The 18th edition of the Havana Film Festival in New York is paying tribute to Cuban cartoon director, Juan Padron, who today described as exciting the organizers'' deference.

 


'I am very happy and excited about this tribute here in New York,' the cartoonist and screenwriter told Prensa Latina at the Clemente Soto Velez Cultural and Educational Center, where his animated film ‘Mas vampiros en La Habana' (More Vampires in Havana) was screened yesterday.

 



According to Padron, seeing that young people and sectors of the New York public know his films about "Elpidio Valdes" and "Vampiros in Havana" (Vampires in Havana) have been comforting.

 


In addition to his animated films, the event taking place at the Big Apple, from March 30th to April 7th, is exhibiting paintings and drawings of the honoree for his 70th birthday and more than five decades of artistic career.

 



Padron stated that this is the second time that he participates in the Havana Film Festival in New York, after his presence in the first version, in 2000.

 


Regarding his new projects, the outstanding director mentioned his work in scripts of animated films and the completion of "El Libro del Mambi" (The Book of the Mambi).

 


The volume collects data on the military ranks, the weapons and other elements of the Cuban liberation army during the war of independence against the Spanish colonialists.
