Lynn Milanés Pays Tribute to Cuban Musician Sindo Garay

Bayamo, Granma, Cuba.- Cuban singer Lynn Milanés presented today a tribute album to a singer who marked the island's musical history, Sindo Garay.

The album entitled 'Lynn canta a Sindo' offers 20 works sung by her, except 'Amargas verdades, Tormento fiero, Guarina and La tarde', that plays a duet with her father, Pablo Milanés, one of the founders in Cuba of the New Trova Movement.

It is precisely on the 45th anniversary of the founding of this cultural and musical movement that the 23rd edition of the Festival of Cubania celebrated in this capital city of the province of Granma, in the east of the country.

This tribute album to the work of the greatest Cuban troubadour picks up songs known as 'Tardes grises, Sabes lo que es un beso, Perla Marina, Mujer bayamesa and Ojos verdes de la sirena.

It is a small tribute to someone who did true masterpieces, a genius who passed his time, decorating our Cuban musical artifice, declared Milanés at the provincial headquarters of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC).

Recorded at PM Records studios between January and August 2014, the CD is a production of Habana Radio, a station attached to the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana.

Milanés also exchanged with the troubadours Marta Campos, Pepe Ordaz, Augusto Blanca, Pedro Veritán and with the writer and poet Luis Carlos Suárez in the space Trova, ¿quién eres, de dónde vienes, hacia dónde vas Uneac.

As part of the program of the Festival of Cubania, the singer also offered a concert at the Theater 10 de Octubre, where she provided pieces of her album dedicated to Garay.

The festivity to commemorate the Day of Cuban Culture exposes in Granma the best of cultural traditions, artistic projects, folklore and works of significant cultural recognition.
