Omara Portuondo and El Cigala, on Tour in Mexico

Mexico.- Omara Portuondo and Diego El Cigala are together today in Mexico, where they will offer concerts on October 25, 26 at the Metropólitan Theater, in this capital and in other locations in the country.

Both offered a press conference in which the diva of the Buena Vista Social Club sang fragments of some boleros and remembered experiences in Mexico, including her relationship with Toña La Negra and Pedro Vargas, as well as the time of lullabies in the Garibaldi Square, an emblematic site for mariachis in this capital.

At the rhythm of bolero and rumba, the gypsy-Cuban duo will offer a show of joy and romanticism during the musical and romantic tour through the country, El Cigala said.

We sympathize with the Mexican people for everything they have been through. We are in a lot of pain and support, but Mexico gets through no matter what comes, the flamenco singer said.

Piano, contrabass, and percussions will accompany the duo's voices in themes such as Lágrimas negras, Silencio, Bésame mucho and Blancas azucenas, as well as sones, chachacha, guaguancó and ranchera music, which will be a sound journey through Spain, Cuba, and Mexico.

But there will be space for improvisation, between two great musicians that feel at home in Mexico, they said.
