Elvira Gonzalez Gallery to Present Robert Mapplethorpe’s Exhibition in Off PHotoEspaña Festival

Elvira Gonzalez Gallery is going to inaugurate on May 30 its second exhibition on American Robert Mapplethorpe (New York, 1946-1988), one of the acclaimed figures of photography throughout the second half of the 20th century. The display includes about thirty pictures taken between 1980 and 1989.

The exhibit, which is part of Off PHotoEspaña Festival, to take place from June 5 to July 28, is focused on the representation of human body and space geometry in terms of the body figure. With an approach that responds to the values of his age, Mapplethorpe beautifully showed taboo matters such as sexuality, the aesthetic exploration of black men, the homoeroticism and sadomasochism, among others. He also introduced and redefined different techniques and formats in terms of photography.

PHotoEspaña, an international photography and visual arts festival, has become one of the most important visual arts events worldwide and one of the largest international forums on photography. Through its festival, PHotoEspaña offers an extraordinary opportunity to get in touch with photographic projects, videos and installations created by the most outstanding national and international photographers and visual artists, as well as new creators.
