For the 2 de Mayo Art Center (CA2M, as per its initials in Spanish), 2014 has been one of the best years related to artistic issue, since after several years without having purchased pieces, CA2M joined 33 contemporary art works to the Comunidad de Madrid collection, something that had not occurred for several years due to the economic constraints that were carried out in all the departments of the Regional Government.
With the acquisition of these new pieces, the Contemporary Art Regional Fund consists of more than 1,600 works reflecting what has happened related to the modern art in the last 30 years.
Some of the latest purchased works include the picture 'El testigo' by Teresa Margolles photography; a sound installation and videos 'Election Night' and '35 minutes' by Los Torreznos; the series 'Cerámicas porno-indignadas' by Carlos Garaicoa; or the 'Now, Elsewhere (Escapememnt)' installation by the collective Raqs Media Collective.
In addition, since October of last year, the CA2M is the new residence of the ARCO Foundation collection, one of the oldest and most important contemporary art legacies in our country. Also, the museum remains the headquarters of the regional collection, turning the Center into a reference at European region due to the quality and importance of its works.
