Cuban journalist to be decorated in Ecuador

Cuban journalist Pedro Martínez Pires received last Monday a recognition of the National Assembly of Ecuador for his more than fifty years work devoted to strengthen the brotherhood between Quito and Havana.

 

In the act, celebrated at the seat of the legislative body, deputies of the South American nation presented Martínez Pires the decoration Asamblea Nacional Dr. Vicente Rocafuerte al Mérito Social.

 

According to the final resolution announced by the president of the single-chamber parliament, Gabriela Rivadeneira, it is recognition to a productive career characterized by his commitment to the social causes.

 

The text underlines his relevant work as journalist, diplomat, deputy and chairman, roles from which he has defended the need to articulate an inclusive and participative agenda directed to favor the comprehensive development of the peoples.


On her part, legislator María Augusta Calle highlighted that Martínez Pires has supported and accompanied the Ecuadorian people struggles.

 

"In the darkest moments of our political life, the Ecuadorian revolutionaries always knew that we has an open microphone in Radio Habana Cuba (radio station where Martínez Pires works since 1973)", indicated.

 

In declarations to Prensa Latina, he affirmed he felt happy and honored, because “there are many years of relation with Ecuador".

 

He remembered he arrived to that South American nation in 1960 as a diplomat and afterwards, he has returned systematically in different functions, but always with the premise to promote the relationship between the two countries.

 

"My staying here during my youth, as a diplomat, was fundamental, was the consolidation of my revolutionary faith. I met many great personalities as painter Oswaldo Guayasamín and writer Benjamín Carrión", he explained.
