Art, society and collecting in ARCOmadrid 2020

Following the critical and commercial success of last year's edition, ARCOmadrid 2020, which will be held in the Spanish capital between February 26 and March 1, 2020, will continue its efforts to link contemporary art with society in general, at the same time that, it will promote artistic collecting at all levels, from the most established collectors to the youngest.

The centerpiece of ARCOmadrid 2020 will be a special thematic section entitled «Es solo cuestión de tiempo» (It's Just a Matter of Time). Curated by Alejandro Cesarco, Mason Leaver-Yap and Manuel Segade, «Es solo cuestión de tiempo» (It's Just a Matter of Time) will adopt the work of Félix González-Torres and the extraordinary scope of his influence on the contemporary art and speech.

Is it possible to project a reading on contemporary art from a figure that denied the principle of authority? The work of the artist Felix Gonzalez-Torres has been growing as a continuous background in recent decades, as an aspiration, a desire or an accompaniment that makes the notion of progressive and linear history more complex. As a kind of contamination, its modes of distribution, the participation of the spectator in its work, the possibility of introducing emotionality in the conceptual patterns, the capacity for transformation from the most daily to the symbolic, political activism as a formal poetic, the suture between the public and the private ... today seem fundamental to understand the role of contemporary artistic practices in the 21st century and maintain their space of complexity.

Due to it has become the hallmark of the fair, ARCOmadrid 2020 - now celebrating its 39th annual edition - will take advantage of its unique position that unites the worlds of European and Latin American art. The fair will offer a platform for Latin American artists -including those found in other parts of the world- as well as for the Latin American market presenting the work in all programs of the fair, both in the General Program, as well as in the curated programs of the fair; for example, Diálogos, curated by Agustín Pérez Rubio and Lucía Sanromán, and Opening, curated by Tiago de Abreu Pinto and Övul Ö. Durmusoglu.

ARCOmadrid 2020 will also have an extensive program of professional activities, and will invite critics, curators, museum directors and leading international figures from the art sector to participate in a very diverse program with discussion tables and professional meetings. These events - factors of great expectation every year at the fair - offer a broad spectrum of world artistic references an opportunity to discuss projects and ideas, while providing their vision and voice to the set of activities at the fair.

Applications for ARCOmadrid 2020 will be accepted until July 5. Detailed instructions can be found at arcomadrid.es
