KINÉTICOS: THE PERPETUAL MOVEMENT

Santiago of Chile: With works never seen in this city, six masters of the international kinetics show up in Kinéticos: The Perpetual Movement, an exhibition opened until Saturday, May 7, at the ARTIUM Gallery.

With Manuel Basoalto's curatorship, the exhibit pays tribute to this current that rose in Europe in the mid 20th century, today revalued in the scene of the world art.

From Victor Vasarely –a Hungarian artist nationalized in France and a recognized leader- to Israel’s Yaacov Agam, plus Argentina’s Julio le Parc and Carlos Cruz-Diez, Venezuelan Jesus Rafael Soto and Chilean Matilde Perez, "the exhibition presents some of the most important artists of the movement in moments in which the kinetic and geometric art have an increasing valuation among critics and also on the international markets", admits Basoalto.

The exposed technologies are varied: engravings, collages, three-dimensional offers, sculptures and experimental objects. The tour showcases both the aesthetic scopes and the force of a trend with precedents in futurism, constructivism and geometric abstraction. Though the first experiences correspond to the avant-gardes of a century ago, the kinetic art is known as such from the 50s, when a group of artists saw in the use of the movement -royal or illusorily- a reinventing strategy of work, and simultaneously a full concept of connotations in the context of modernism, related art, science, technology, architecture and a more participative attitude of the spectator.

Kinéticos … dedicates a special hall to the historical works of Chilean harbinger Matilde Perez, who nowadays exhibits in the Gallery of the Embassy of Chile in Berlin, as part of an international traveling exhibition. There are historical photographs and texts "that give a full account of diverse aspects of the kinetic movement, as one of the artistic fundamental forefronts of the 20th century and with major projection towards the future", the curator concludes.

The ARTIUM Gallery counts on eight years of experience in the market of art. Standing right in the middle of the local gallery movement, it has encouraged exhibitions, special sales and collaborative projects, in a bid to spread the work of national and international artists. The kinetic art is one of the trends with more presence in the collection.
