Contest for Photographers … Through November 30

November 30 sets the deadline for applications to Pilar Citoler International Prize of Contemporary Photography, conceived for contemporary artists regardless of nationality or generation.

Despite the Prize starts with the presentation of one work, this sixth edition will be paying special attention to the artistic career of contesters and their insertion in the discourse of contemporary photography.

Several prizes are to be handed. The awarded work will join the artistic collection of Cordoba University. Likewise, the artist will be carrying out, during February and March 2013, an individual and temporal exhibition at Puertanueva Hall in this Spanish city, so as to give a boost to the artist’s career. Furthermore, a monographic catalogue will be edited and the winner will receive 15 thousand euro.

El ojo que vescollection has published monographic volumes on prizewinners from previous editions. The collection has counted on the collaboration of important specialists in contemporary photography such as Juan Manuel Bonet, Alejandro Castellote, Javier Hontoria and Alfonso de la Torre, among others. Quentin Bajac, conservator of Photography at Pompidou Center, and Kathy Kubicki, editor and theoretician on this expression, were summoned for the last issue, devoted to Karen Knorr.

Competing artists will showcase only one photographic work, which must not have been awarded in previous contests, theme and technique of your choice. Its format won’t exceed top measures of 200 x 200 cm.

The jury will have a meeting in December 2011, and will be made up of Pilar Citoler, collector and creator of CIRCA XX Collection, which belongs to the Council Reina Sofia Art Center and National Museum; Maria Bleda and Jose Maria Rosa, photographers providing the image of the 6th Prize; Norberto Dotor, director of Fucares Gallery; Karen Knorr, winner of the last edition; and Alfonso de la Torre, art theoretician and critic. The winning work will be chosen out of ten previously handpicked proposals. The Prize will be awarded in February 2012.

The first edition of this event was held back in 2006, when Begoña Zubero was awarded. Felix Curto received the prize in 2007, just as Manuel Sonseca and Juan del Junco did afterwards.

Pilar Citoler won in 2005 the ARCO Prize to private collecting in Spain, and, in December 2007, the Gold Medal to the Merit on Fine Arts. She chaired the Council of Reina Sofia Art Center and National Museum. Her collection includes over 1.300 works of contemporary art, from Spain and overseas, and different genres: painting, sculpture, contemporary and graphic bibliophile.
