Open Studio: 20-30 Artists, 4 Days

The artists’ studios quite often “conceal” certain facets of their characters and careers, hardly ever seen by a considerable chunk of the public and that hold way too many keys to understanding their poetics or purposes. Unfinished works gathering dust on a shelf; others that entail an all-out breakaway from the known realm; others that make up part of the artist’s assets and will never ever be put on sale.

A new meet for the contemporary arts in Madrid will come around on Oct. 4-7. The attendance call ends tomorrow. For those attending this event, Open Studio will certainly be an opportunity for both emerging and well-known artists to “open up” their workspaces to way too many eyes. It’ll be all about their willingness to showcase their works in a closer and more accessible fashion, always bringing pundits, collectors and art experts closer together around the creative process.

Those interested in attending Open Studio can sign up on this website: www.openstudio.es. Registration deadline has been set for June 30. Artists from any nationality and age are entitled to join Open Studio. The selection will be made by the front-office staff with the support of the consulting committee, paying heed to artistic quality, singularity and attractiveness of the workspaces and the activities the artists will carry out in their studios in the course of the event.

During the four-day event in October, chats, colloquiums, presentations, concerts and workshops will unfold in each and every workspace.

This initiative is supported and sponsored by the Culture State Division of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, the Madrid Community and the local city hall’s Arts Department. Other collaborators are Acción Cultural Exterior, the Reina Sofía National Art Museum and Center, the Dos deMayo Art Center, ARTE 40 and La Casa Encendida.
