Truth and Fraud

Elmyr de Hory, one of the most notorious fakers of art history, is the star of an exhibit that the Círculo de Bellas Artes (CBA) in Madrid has come up with for February 2013. Proyecto Fakesupposes a reflection of the concept of artistic creation copyright, the character of the true and the fake in arts, let alone the arising contradictions.

De Hory faked over a thousand pieces that were displayed in museums and collections from around the world as if they would have been painted by Picasso, Modigliani, Degas and others.

Alongside this exhibit, the CBA has produced a documentary film that tackles both artistic and narrative fakery. This short flick can be watched in the hall.

The expo’s grand opening –curated by Dolores Durán- will take place on February 7.
