Cuban cultural event in Córcega

Córcega and Cuba are two islands, one located in the Mediterranean and the other one in the Caribbean. The aotorities of both territories are coordinating the possibility to carry out an everlasting association around artistic and cultural projects.

 

On February 20, a great exhibition titled Obras maestras de los Museos Nacionales de Habana en el Palacio Fesch was opened at the Museum of Fine Arts of the Ajaccio village. The general curatorship and the selection of the pieces have been under curatorship of Philippe Perfettini, a curator of temporal exhibitions at this prestigious institution along with Gilbert Brownstone President of the Brownstone Foundation. This curatorship has been carried out to materialize a dialogue among the works from the Fesch Palace collection and a selection of three Cuban collective collections. That constitutes an exclusive occasion to enjoy them.

 

The Cuban selection starts from a collections selection from the National Museum of Fine Arts, the Cuba’s Photographic Library and the Collection of Contemporary Art of the National Council of Plastic Arts. Among the works of the National Museum of Fine Arts are included works of the Collection of French Art such as Eugene Delacroix, Jean-Baptiste, Camille Corot, GustaveCourbet and François Pascal Gérard; Víctor Patricio Landaluze, the landscape by Eduardo Laplante, Esteban Chartrand, Guillermo Collazo, Armando García Menocal, Leopoldo Romañach, Antonio Rodríguez Morey, the so-called avant-garde art is composed of works by Rafael Blanco, Víctor Manuel, Gattorno, Marcelo Pogolotti, Amelia Peláez, Jorge Arche, Mario Carreño and Wifredo Lam, considered the most universal of all Cuban creator during the 20th century. Also, works by Gilberto de la Nuez and Raúl Martínez, First National Prize of Plastic Arts in Cuba as well as a series of posters carteles by Olivio Martínez, Faustino Pérez, Helena Serrano, Ernesto Padrón, Antonio Pérez González (Ñiko), Eufemia Álvarez and Alfredo Rostgaard.dating back after 1959.

 

 

The Cuba’s photographic library will present over 100 pictures showing a tour related to the development of this artistic expression of the national history from the foundation of the National Circle of Journalists and the Photographic Club in Havana until the triumph of the Revolution. They also include a selection of the so-called Épica de la Revolución such as José Agraz, Alberto Díaz (Korda) yand Raúl Corrales (Plastic Arts National Award, in 1996) as well as works dating back later years by artists like José A. Figueroa and Enrique de la Uz. There is also a representation of the 90’s and the beginning of the new century through pictures by José Julián Martí, Humberto Mayol, Raúl Cañibano, René Peña, Liudmila& Nelson, Ricardo Elías, Jorge Luis Álvarez (Pupo), Alejandro González and OssainRaggi, among others.

 

 

From the Collection of Cuban Art of the national Council of Plastic Arts is the exhibition by Ajaccio, works by Domingo Ramos and Gilberto de la Nuez, along with contemporary creators such as Raúl Martínez and Manuel Mendive who are models of the Caribbean art. This selection is complemented by other creator linked to those great changes that took place in the national aesthetic starting from the 80’s and 90’s such as José Manuel Fors, Marta María Pérez Bravo, Rocío García, José Ángel Toirac, Esterio Segura, Julio Neira, Abel Barroso y Reynerio Tamayo, René Francisco Rodríguez and Lázaro Saavedra, National Awards 2010 y 2014 respectively as well as Jorge López Pardo, Adonis Flores, Glenda León, José E. Fuentes (JEFF), Abel Barreto, Humberto Díaz and Mabel Poblet.

 

 

In general, it is about a diverse selection that it will allow establishing bonds between the Cuban creation and that treasured in Ajaccio. Anyway, a record of feelings and subjectivities will provide human warm and Caribbean shades during two months in winter.

 

During this Cultural event, other artistic expressions will be present through presentations of artists like Miguel Núñez, Carlos Varela, Ernán and Hárold López-Nussa. Danza Abierta group will provide three different performances. Also, conferences and presentations related to literature as well as a sample of Cuban cinema complement the program.
