Johnny Ventura, in the Feast of Fire

The city of Santiago de Cuba is all decked out in its 500 Anniversary with the visit of Johnny Ventura for the first time in Cuba, Dominican popular singer who has confirmed his participation in the 35 Caribbean Festival, who will make sure the people will dance with his performances on July 4 and 5 at 20:30 p.m. at the Heredia Theater of this Caribbean city.

 

The outstanding musician’s real name is Juan de Dios Ventura Soriano. He was born on March 8, 1940 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. A singer, lawyer, businessman and politician with a fruitful career in the genre of Merengue and known as "El Caballo Mayor ''. Ventura was very popular in his country in the decades of 60,70 and 80.

 

His discography is composed of 105 productions, being the most prolific Dominican artist in this regard and whose recordings have been awarded with 28 gold records, two platinum, also a Latin Grammy in 2004 and a Grammy for Excellence for his career in 2006.

 

Many regard him as the Father of Modern Merengue, others call him The Joy of the country, The Merenguero of the Century, The Living Legend of Merengue, The National Industry of Joy, El Caballo Mayor, Mr. Merengue or the Son of the People.

 

His musical work is well known by the people of Santiago that enjoy a fully his contagious rhythm and remembers having danced at carnivals with "Patacón pisao" therefore they wait his performances with great expectations.
