Since the announcementwas issued on October 28, Cuban dancers and others from around the globe have shown interest in participating in the Giant Casino Circle, which intends to win an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records on November 25.The current record was established by Greece in 2014, when 1,102 people danced Casino for 7.16 minutes.
Since Wednesday afternoon, when the official registration period was opened at Salon Rosado de la Tropical, an Artex’s cultural center, hundreds of people from different generations, including students, doctors, communicators, artists and even mothers with their children, joined this project.
In this first meeting between organizers and dancers, the first ones aired details on the rehearsals and choreography for the unusual Casino Circle.
Sponsored by Artex’s cultural tourism agency, Paradiso, the initiative is part of a program to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Baila en Cuba, World Meeting of Casino and Salsa Dancers and Academies, which every year gathers over five hundred dancers and people interested in learning the different musical genres and rhythms comprised by the Cuban culture.
Dedicated to Mambo, Baila en Cuba will be held on November 22 – 27, 2015.
There are high expectations among participants, who prepare everything in order to meet the official requirements for this contest.
Over 1,000 couples will be dancing for 15 minutes, accompanied by four songs of emblematic authors of Cuban music: Somos Diferente by Juan Formell, Baila en Cuba by Manolito Simonet, Somos Latinos by Adalberto Alvarez and Me dicen Cuba by Alexander Abreu.
Over the past 10 years, Baila en Cuba has gained momentum in the market by putting together more dancers, professors and enthusiasts from different countries, who travel to the Island in order to take dance lessons of such Cuban traditional rhythms as: mambo, chachachá, rumba, son,… and enjoy night concerts given by the main Cuban bands of dance popular music.
The concert schedule for this edition of the event, to take place at Artex’s Salon Rosado de La Tropical, is the following:
- November 22 – Opening Ceremony: Santiago Alfonso’s Company andConcert by Formell y los Van Van.
- November 23 – Adalberto Alvarez y su Son and David Calzadoy la Charanga Habanera.
- November 24 –Lazarito Valdes y Bamboleo and Manolito Simonet y su Trabuco.
- November 25 – Paulo FG y su Élite and Pupy y los que Son Son
- November 26 – Jose Luis Cortez y NG La Banda and Maykel Blanco y su Salsa Mayor.
- November 27 – Closing Ceremony with Elito Revé y su Charangón and Alexander Abreu y Havana D´Primera.
