Jojazz 2015 bets to creation and virtuosity

The 18 International Contest of Young Jazz Players, Jojazz, will take in Havana from next 19 to 22, dedicated this time to the young maestros of the genre.

 

Brenda Besada, communicator of the National Center of Popular Music, one of the organizers together to the Cuban Institute of Music, advanced during a press conference that the Tito Junco Room of the Bertolt BrechtCultural Center will be the venue of the event.

 

She said that the program is divided in the contest in the different categories and the concerts.

 

Usual Jazz jams will take place every day at the Gardens of the TeatroMella, with the performance of participants and the attendance of enthusiastic lovers of this genre.

 

The international part of the event is guaranteed with the attendance of the students of the U.S. Barrie School and Northwood High School, according to information given by the Organizing Committee.

 

The inaugural gala includes the performance of  the Joven Jazz Band directed by Maestro Joaquín Betancourt,  the musical group from Camaguey province Maracujazz (winner of the previous festival), and the TríoSalvaje, led by pianist Roberto Carcassés.

 

In the closing concert, that will take place on Sunday 22,will play the winners of the event and some guests, also including Maracujazz.

 

The Jojazz Contest seeks to stimulate the interest in the genre among young people between 16 and 30 years old competing in the categories of composition and playing. In the first one, participants can present two free format works with a three minutes duration minimum. Participation in playing includes soloist, small format and big format.
