Jennah Ward, "Teviot"

Cohen Gallery is pleased to announce Teviot, toned cyanotypes by Jennah Ward. The show will be on view from November 5 - December 24, 2015.

"Ward's cyanotypes push the temporality of shape in the direction of complete ineffability. Though trained as a photojournalist, she has for over a decade devoted herself to forcing an evidentiary medium to perform as a suggestive one. The things that in the past have captivated her—sheets of colored cellophane, curtains—are purely atmospheric, their filminess a doubling of the photographic medium itself, shorn of any reference to corporeality"

In this new body of work made with the light coming through her Los Angeles home on Teviot Street, Ward raises the stakes by introducing a darker palette of colors. She equates the work as being akin to that of twilight spaces, or slowly finding sight in a darkened room. Jennah Ward's work preciously confers the ambience and experience of looking. To be taken in, and to surrender to Jennah Ward's cyanotypes, is to know and feel something eternal and unanswerable.

Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. and by appointment
