FolkCuba 2016, International Laboratory of Folklore in Havana will start its 62nd edition on the third Monday of every January as it is traditional.

 

For two weeks, this time from January 18 to 30, participants will learn secrets of Cuban folk dances of African and Hispanic history and the magic of the sound of Cuban percussion instruments.

 

Yoruba dances, Congos and Arara origin, dances, conga, rumba and their expressions as well as elements of Cuban percussion are some of the subjects to be taught in this course with seat at  Conjunto Folklorico Nacional de Cuba, located on 4th, Vedado. Registrations will be open from Monday, January 11.

 

Since 1985, this prestigious company organizes these labs which are taught by its most outstanding figures. As a genuine expression of the cultural diversity Cubans have inherited, the Conjunto Folklorico Nacional has taken the best dance and musical traditions of this archipelago around the world.

 

His repertoire reflects the different Cuban cultural roots, whereas they have European origin, African and those coming from other Caribbean islands. With special emphasis can be seen the Hispanic and French influences as well as the Yoruba, Congo, Carabali and Arará, all brought to this Caribbean land since the sixteenth century by African slaves.

 

Scenarios from over 45 countries in Europe, America, Africa and Asia have welcomed the actions of the Conjunto Folclorico Nacional on international tours during its more than half-century history.

 

FOLKCUBA also has a summer version, which begins on the first Monday of July each year, also for a period of fifteen days.
